OVERVIEW
Learn ten practical steps for adopting AI responsibly, with data protection and fairness built in from the start.

Part of the AI Sprint: six weeks of events across Guernsey, 1 October to 12 November 2026.

What this session is

Help your business make informed decisions about AI while building data protection, fairness and trust into how you use it. This practical is co-hosted by Brent Homan, Commissioner at the ODPA and Chair of Innovate Guernsey Susan Watson. It combines presentation, hands-on exercises and discussion — covering how AI shows up in everyday business, the common features behind most tools, and why data protection is an enabler of good AI use rather than a barrier to it. You'll work through ten practical steps for adopting AI, apply them to an interactive SME case study, and leave with a clear plan for turning what you've learned into action.

Who it is for
SME owners and staff who want to start using AI properly — with confidence, not just enthusiasm.

What you will leave with

  • Ten practical steps for adopting AI responsibly in your business
  • A tested framework for building data protection and fairness into AI use from the start
  • A worked example from an interactive SME case study you can apply to your own business

About the AI Sprint

The Guernsey AI Sprint is an island-wide programme, led by the G8, bringing together businesses, organisations, and individuals to explore, learn, and act on artificial intelligence. From October 1st to November 12th, we'll run workshops, talks, hackathons, and hands-on challenges designed to move Guernsey from AI curiosity to AI confidence.
